In her victory speech at the 2009 Ironman world championship in Kona, Chrissie Wellington described her ambition to build a “platform for change” that enables her to translate her athletic accolades into positive humanitarian causes. Judging from her performance in yesterday’s Ironman South Africa, Wellington’s “platform” is like a stainless steel structure built on bedrock […]
To declare the field competitive would be a massive understatement in yesterday’s Half Ironman in Oceanside. It seemed that 80% of the world’s top full ironman athletes raced yesterday. Andy Potts and Mirinda Carfrae grabbed the victories at 3:55 and 4:26 respectively, but I was particularly delighted to see Ronnie Schildknecht and Jordan Rapp in […]
What an amazing performer. Marino Vanhoenacker, the Belgian champion triathlete, has just secured his fifth consecutive victory at Ironman Austria. And it wasn’t a cheapie either. Vanhoenacker crushed the second place finisher and with his sub-8-hour time, clocking the fourth fastest Ironman time ever. Wow ! The Ironman triathlon is one of the most grueling […]
Despite the unconventional race distances, the Triathlon de Troyes remains one of my favorites. The race organization is high-caliber, and the volunteers are numerous and dedicated. The 30-degree celsius temperature this year proved almost unbearable on the unshaded run course (and I witnessed several casualties). I was pleased to have finished this one fully-conscious.
I’m always amazed at how extraordinary individuals extend their personal drive and excellence into so many dimensions. Take triathlete Chris Lieto, one of the top triathletes in the world. Chris has converted his blog (http://thegreenathlete.com) into a resource which inspires people on how to live a greener life. From promoting the use of reusable bags, […]
Yesterday’s triathlon at Fourmies in Picardie proved to be a painful reminder of the importance of packing lists. In the saturday morning rush to leave Paris, I forgot both my goggles and swim top. Here’s a photo at the mid-point of the swim. The idiot in the bike jersey with no googles is me…
Thanks to a strong run from my partner, Team Beer-to-Beer placed third in the Andresy Triathlon yesterday. No trophy to show for it, but we’re proud nonetheless !
I’ve finally had a spare moment to log last week’s olympic distance triathlon at the lacs de Belfort. As a French championship qualifying race, it’s understandable that so many top triathletes make the trek out here in the eastern corner of France near Mulhouse. I was not worthy, witnessing the few remaining stragglers that didn’t […]
Triathlon season started for us today, and given the seemingly long winter, my wife and I decided to ease into it with a simple sprint relay at Etampes, just outside Paris. A much weaker runner than my wife, I decided to restrict myself to the swim & bike and let her take over for the […]
