Sexy sumo wrestlers

May 29, 2008

In Canada, Subaru has followed the familiar ad formula of showing bikini-clad models hosing down a vehicle and each other in slow motion.  But instead of models, there are sumo wrestlers flipping their hair, snapping towels and pouring buckets of soapy water onto each other as the song “Danger! High Voltage” by the rock band Electric Six plays in the background (sample lyrics: “Danger! Danger! High voltage when we touch and when we kiss.”). The commercial ends with the tagline “Japanese S.U.V.’s just got a little sexier.”

In Japan, sumo wrestlers tend to attract the top models and actresses as girlfriends, but I appreciate the irony of treating sumo wrestlers as the objects of lustful desire.  Well done !
